I noticed the voltage scaling of the graph kept changing, depending on the voltage at the time. This is equivalent to changing the voltage setting on an oscilloscope. You can make a waveform look very different by changing the sensitivity of the measuring device. Normally the scaling would be 0.

In that case I should not see a waveform, but a flat line. I saw a changing waveform. Is there a software bug? I would think both o2 sensors should be graphed using the same voltage scaling, so that if I wanted to visually overlay them I would be looking at similarly scaled information. Got the Toad obd2 software seeing this page on Google. I would have paid a couple hundred more for this.

The software is very stable and up to date. Perfect for do it yourself diagnosing. Which is when you buy a seperate tuner kit. MOst however will never both car-tuning. Basically a must for any competent technician. When I originally got the system setup and working, I did have some problems connecting to the ELM but got that all resolved. Today and for the last several days I have not been able to connect to the ELM.

Also tried detecting the ELM in different ignition positions and each time the red light comes on and remains on as well as testing my COM ports in case my Bluetooth dongle was the problem. As recommended on your help page I tried changing my COM port settings to a baud rate of bps. Now they are reset to original values of bps. After reading somewhere, I also hooked up my trickle battery charger to ensure the low battery system was not blocking my connection.

I DO have a way more expensive handheld that works on all vehicles but this is my go to option due to large screen real estate you have on laptop vs handheld. Quick to read, isolates a problem system so allows you to check micro switches etc — to narrow down where to look and why. Saves throwing money at something before confirming an issue. I originally bought Total car diagnostics OBD software for my Win 7 laptop, about 5 years ago, and never thought about reviewing it. However, the obdii software would connect to my car just fine. I think there is no best automotive diagnostic software. Thus how to conclude best scan tool software? Depends on your needs. The Mac obd 2 software is poor compared to Windows equivalent. However USB cable is about 4x faster, which is important for car mechanics. Used ProScan software. It has saved me a few times from going to the local auto parts store or even a mechanic to check why the check engine light is there it works really really well and worth every cent.

The dealership read the same codes and confirmed that the malfunctioning check engine light were exactly what the obd-ii software had picked up. Earlier today i purchased your TOAD obd2 software. I plan to use your product in my car workshop all the advanced options it offers and would like to ask, what kind of spec does my laptop require to run smooth and to give me ability to use all the options that your program offers.

I have two vehicles to service and I see from the product description TOAD software covers most if not all of what I need. First vehicle I want to service is a Audi A4 that requires brake work which I am upgrading to larger calipers, but need ability to place EPB into service mode and once work is complete set system to new pad width. Can you tell me if any of these listed obd programs have the ability to read the Ford DEF exhaust fluid details? We know ForScan obd2 software for PC has this capacity. Even one of the programs pulled the Vin Number into the program. I definitely have the following setup in my combi van. It is missing the optional 15 pin, but it has all the rest. ISO and KWP must have pin 7 while pin 15 is optional the connector must have metallic contacts inside pins 4, 5, 7, 15, plus I have seen some people selling the software to change engine settings, but they have not said what hardware or software is required.

In my reading and studying IM and other error codes. I subsequestly found a used replacement ECU on ebay and bought it and was able to get the car smogged.

Here, the real time data from the oxygen sensor was being viewed using the graphical monitor feature to observe the characteristic sine wave swing that should be present. Close observation of the swing values, as compared to acceptable waveforms recalled from reading the FSM confirmed the O2 sensor was not the problem.

The next day while pulling up a long, steep hill in 3rd gear the light came on again. And this became the pattern. At this point, I hooked up the BR-3 and the laptop computer to monitor the fuel trim or mixture adjustment values in real time over the next several days as the wife drove. In several brief full throttle runs up hill, the trim levels stayed quite low which indicated there wasn't a fuel delivery problem, for example, clogged fuel injectors or low fuel pump pressure.

The BR-3 does provide for a fuel pressure reading, but apparently Toyota doesn't have a fuel pressure sensor and can't provide this information. The first photo below shows the main screen indicating that the MIL or Check Engine Light is on and, a few of the engine parameters that were set to display are visible.

The second photo again shows the main screen, but with additional data values selected and the MIL light had been turned off using the Mode 4 screen shown further below. The third photo shows the freeze frame data collected when the P trouble code was set. The P trouble code means that the engine management system is having to over compensate to keep the engine from running lean.

So, I decided to just take it easy on the hills and continue on our road trip as planned. I did reset the MIL light at the end of each day that it came on, so I could tell by the light coming on again whether I was taking it easy enough on hills. Shown below are some additional screens and a brief description of their purpose. The Mode 4 screen is for clearing out the trouble codes and additional information as previously noted. The second screen shows additional data about the performance of the oxygen sensors.

The third screen shows manufacturer specific test data, which can be accessed with the BR-3, but you need to equip yourself with the Factory Service Manual or "FSM" to be able to interpret these values. The last photo shows the on board monitor tests that run continuously and the other periodic tests performed in in the OBDII system.

This is a much more accurate test of the vehicle emissions system than the tail pipe sniffer test. If I had not had the BR-3 with me so I could investigate the severity on the spot, the above problem would have put a real wrinkle in our road trip plans. After returning home at the end of the trip, I re-read the 4x4wire forum posts on this problem and read a number of Internet articles found by searching on "hot wire mass air flow sensor", the type of mass air flow sensor or "MAF" used in the 3rd generation 4Runner 3.
