Internal driver error in IDirect3DDevice present. Hi Tom, Cheers for your input Looking at various forums this seems to have been a problem since !

I have a suspicion Norton is the problem. Part of their installation is updating directx drivers, I've never had this problem before been playing for couple of years now.

Is there a way I can change back to original drivers? If anyone can solve this it'll make a lot of people happy!! I have uninstalled cod waw again and deleted the game folder. Now im reinstalling and just updateing using patch 2 and NOT 3 as it seems the new patch is culmative. Maybe this may work. I will post again once I have completed install and tested the game. Should be in the next 2 hours. Until then fingers crossed.

If your GFX card and direct x are the same as mine then it may explain the reason. Thanks and any other input is welcome. Lets all beat this issue together. NO joy on the reinstall. Still the same. I have spoken with a friend and he is lending me a different graphics card. So when I get it which looks like next week now I will update you again as to the outcome.

The times that it happens seems to be when in direct combat and hitting too many keys at one time? I hope someone comes up with a solution, but for now I just reboot and it starts direct 3d running again. COD 5 is the only program I'm running when this happens.

Did this since the newest update was installed for COD 5. Jan 25, 1 0 18, 0. I know it's very long but here is my DxDiag. If you're just wondering the version it's DirectX 11 and I was running the game at the min.

I deleted almost everything I didn't think was needed as it's quite long and didn't seem likely related. I'll also note that I'm using RivaTuner as well. The 2 cards run between 45 to 60 degrees C. Sound Tab 1: No problems found. Sound Tab 2: No problems found. Input Tab: No problems found. Based on the replies below, it's clear that my approach using vsync and Present would not work.

I think I found another way to achieve the desired result, so I'm posting it here in case someone can spot errors in my thinking, or just for the information of anyone else working on a similar problem. It provides a boolean field that is set to true during the pause between two refresh cycles, and another field that tells you the current scanline during an active refresh. This is acceptable for my needs.

I think I found a way to determine this, which relies on my ability to know what line on the monitor is currently being drawn. Here's the basic logic:. And so on In my demo implementation I used red, green, blue, and finally black.

If either of those conditions is not met, you may not see anything, the colors could be swapped or overlapping, etc. If, on the other hand, you see a constant RGB pattern at the top of the screen for each frame, then this proves that you have direct control over the drawn image. I should add that I tested this theory on several computers at work today.

Most did display the pattern, but at least one had the entire screen painted red. A few would have the color bands jump up and down, indicating some inconsistency in swapping the buffers. This usually happened on older machines.

I think this is a good calibration test to determine if the hardware is suitable for our testing purposes. Here is one of the authors webpage that introduces the tool. Stack Overflow for Teams — Collaborate and share knowledge with a private group.
