The d has two front-mounted USB ports and two in back, which you can use to attach external storage drives or printers. Setting up the Iomega NAS d proved somewhat problematic, largely due to Iomega's weak documentation and packaging we played with the GB version with Rev drive. The oddly folded multilingual Quick Install sheet tells you little more than "insert the Solutions CD"--advice we heeded after the d's blue power LED failed to light and the four green status LEDs blinked quickly in an unpromising fashion.
The HTML manual showed us that there was a voltage switch hidden behind a completely unrelated sticker which we discovered was set for volts. Administering the Iomega NAS d was far easier than setting it up. Stiffer hardware requirements are the trade-off for the d's easier and more versatile configuration and administration compared to less robust NAS boxes, such as the Buffalo TeraStation running a minimal version of Linux that provides only network access.
The d has other IS-friendly features such as quick-change, cold-swappable system power must be off, unlike with hot-swappable drives that may be replaced with the system on drives, and Computer Associate's eTrust antivirus software and BrightStor ARCServe software for backing up the server. Iomega also includes its own Automatic Backup client that performs background file-level backups, helping users to back up their PCs to the d.
Does it even exist? Reverting all our PC's to older versions of Windows hell of a job, but we need to easily access data on those drives. Option 1 is getting increasingly interesting as I notice more software and hardware not working and I am strongly against destroying and throwing away hardware or software which works perfectly, just because it is only a few years old! Will they be recognised and useable? If a driver exists for Windows 10, that would solve all problems, so if anyone knows a trustworthy!
Otherwise an answer on option2 would be appreciated. I am surprised giants like Microsoft and others do not offer that, as they are the ones who are constantly selling us millions of new things which do not accept old things being connected.
Just throw them away and buy new ones is the adagio apparently. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.
