How long can I borrow tools for? Tools can be borrowed for up to three weeks at a time. Can I send someone else to pick up my tools? Please email or call us if you are unable to pick up your tools and provide the name of the person who will pick them up on your behalf. For insurance reasons we can only allow members or people who we know are authorised by members to take away tools.
What is the tool library doing to help protect against Covid? All tools are quarantined for 72 hours after their return and we sanitise our hands before preparing your tools for collection.
Tools are placed on a labelled shelf for contactless collection. We have a huge perspex screen set up and a maximum of two people can be in the tool library at a time. If there are two people inside already, please wait outside until someone else leaves.
Please also wear a mask whilst inside the tool library. Do you take donations of tools? Contractors or other using tools to make money cannot borrow.
Individuals must be age eighteen 18 or older to borrow tools from the Southside Tool Library. Prior to borrowing tools, individual must a complete a Tool Library Registration form; b sign the Waiver and Indemnification Form; and c have their residence confirmed by a Tool Library volunteer or staff.
Verification of identity is accomplished by a valid government issued photo ID. Residency is confirmed by the address listed on the valid government issued photo ID. Tools and equipment are loaned for 1 or 7 days. The return date is located at the top of the Loan Agreement. Failure to return the tools and equipment by the due date will incur late fees and stop the account.
South Seeds may replace severely damaged tools, holding the member responsible for the full replacement cost. Fines must be paid in full before borrowing additional items.
Fines will be no more than the cost price of the tool if bought new. South Seeds reserves the right to take appropriate steps to retrieve damaged tools or unpaid fines and fees, including the use of legal action and will charge the member with the cost of any such action.
South Seeds also reserves the right to forgive fees due to special circumstances. All reservations must be confirmed by a South Seeds staff member, volunteer, or automated response to be effective. Members may renew each tool a maximum of once if a the member renews via Myturn the day before that the tool is due, and b no other member has reserved the tool.
South Seeds reserves the right to refuse or limit renewals and will do so based on demand. Tools are provided in a satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and in accordance with descriptions, samples, models and other pre-contract information provided.
Tools must only be used for the normal purpose that is intended and in accordance with any and all operation and safety instructions or similar documentation provided. The borrower may not make any alterations or adjustments to the equipment beyond those that are already possible within the range of adjustments specific to a given item.
The member agrees that South Seeds is not responsible for any manufacturing defects, or the quality of workmanship or materials inherent in any borrowed tools. The member agrees that if any borrowed tool becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, he or she must immediately discontinue use of the tool and notify South Seeds of the issue on return, if not earlier. All tools are to be returned in the same or better condition as they were issued, barring normal wear and tear.
This restitution amount could equal the full replacement cost of the item. All tools must be returned clean. The member agrees to pay for a cleaning fee if it is returned dirty. The member agrees to the assessment by South Seeds of fair restitution for dirtiness.
